Power Up is my starter plan, ideal for those looking for a way back into regular exercise and who need help and guidance with setting realistic goals, planning around existing commitments, keeping it enjoyable and staying motivated. This package includes guided self- led sessions with clear targets and support every step of the way plus you can participate in an online total body workout group class per week. The classes are sociable and ideal for those find the gym environment intimidating or have little time because you can just log – in and crack on from the comfort of your own home, maximising your workout time.
£30 per week
Each week I run two classes
, a full body workout and one specifically tailored to improve core and back fitness. Attendance to some or all of these classes is included in this plan and I encourage you to make the most of them. All you need is a computer or tablet with a camera and your exercise kit. No need to leave home, just get changed and crack on! What’s more, you’ll soon get to know others in the class so it’s a chance to socialise with likeminded people trying to reach the same sort of goals as yours!
The very first step is to get to know you better by having a chat and asking you to complete a Lifestyle Questionnaire and a Par-Q (Routine medical questionnaire). It’s important that you are honest and provide accurate information to give me an idea of your exercise history, current fitness level, any health issues or ailments and what you would like to achieve.
The next step is to get together, in – person ideally, to get an idea of your current condition. During this session we will take some simple measurements and perform a few tests to establish your baseline fitness including how you move to assess flexibilty, any limitations in movement or muscular imbalances and get you set up with a heart rate – based fitness tracking app which will allow us to take a closer look at your current level of cardiovascular / aerobic fitness.
I find heart rate monitors to be a fantastic tool for gauging your fitness, tracking your training, monitoring progress and setting specific targets according to your goals. I use Polar products as I find them the most user friendly. If you would like more information about heart rate training, take a look at my Heart Rate Training page.
During this initiation we will get you set up with a sensor, a Polar account and explain how it all works. I can then monitor your training sessions, give feedback, provide encouragement and set specific targets for your future training sessions.
All your planned activities and training sessions will be designed to be part of a longer – term plan that progresses over time, evolving with you and your improving fitness. This will ensure you are continually challenged and don’t get bored!
Planning your time and how you will schedule your training sessions around existing commitments is essential to achieving success. Together we will come up with a weekly schedule of training, be it self – led, one – on – ones or Zoom group exercise classes. This can be adapted over time to evolve with you and help you meet your short, medium and long – term goals.
Each week we will schedule a slot for us to have a 10 minute chat, in which I can provide support for you during your journey to better health, addressing any queries about particular exercises / activities, and how you are getting on generally. I hope in this way to boost morale and help keep you motivated to keep working towards you goals.
During this meeting we will repeat various measurements and / or tests completed during our first session. In this way we can quantify your progress and if necessary set new goals. We can go through new or existing exercises to ensure your technique is safe and effective. You can provide feedback on your experience and I can tweak your programme accordingly, to keep it fresh, interesting and enjoyable.
I use a app called ‘Polar Coach’ to view the data from your training sessions using a heart rate monitor. It’s an excellent tool which allows me to delve into your performance and set very specific aspects to focus on in your training such as working on endurance or optimising your workouts for the purpose of weight loss.
